Question: Please solve this puzzle
Three friends went to a resturant. The bill was $75/-
Each one contributed $25/-.
The waiter took the bill to the cashier.
The cashier was happy & decided to give them a discount of $ 5/- & said the waiter to return them $ 5/-.
But he was confused how to distribute $ 5 among 3 persons.
He kept $ 2 in his pocket & gave one $ to each one of the 3 persons.
So 1st each one contributed 25 $ now as they are given 1 $ back their contribution reduces to $ 24.
They all contributed $ 24 that is 24x3=72 & 2 $'s are in the waiters pocket.
The total becomes 74 but they paid $ 75.
Where is the remaining 1 $?.

Seventy-five dollars was ponied up by the three friends to start with, correct? So, you really have to figure out know where that $75 is now. It's simple:
There is $70 in the till with the cashier
The waiter has $2
Each friend has $1 for a total of $3
$70 + $2 + $3 = $75
The TRICKY PART is that people miss how THE PROBLEM IS CHANGED by the way the question is asked at the end:
...So 1st each onecontributed $25. Now, as they are given $1 back their contribution reduces to $24. They all contibuted $24 that is $24 x 3 = $72...
This statement makes the problem about finding only $72 while most people believe it is still about finding $75. But, after the friends get the refund the problem is no longer about finding $75 because they got $3 back so you only have to find $72
There is $70 in the till with the cashier.
The waiter has $2
$70 + $2 = $72
In the story, the $2 that the waiter has is added to the $72 total given by the friends to reach the confusing $74 total. As shown above, the $72 amount already includes the $2 the waiter has. So, adding the $2 again is wrong because it double counts the $2. Once the refund is given you do not need to find $70 + $2 + $2 = $74. You only need to find $70 + 2 = $72
Does this help?
THERE ARE ONLY 3 PEOPLE TOTAL. A FRIEND AND 3 FRIENDS MAKES 4. THIS QUESTION IS FLAWED.
The total bill is 75-5 = $70
3 x $24 = $72
Now subtract the $2 in the waiter's pocket = $70.
In the above case you added the $2 instead of subtracting it.
IDK i'm so confused.
