Which books were definitely better than their movies?!

Question:

Which books were definitely better than their movies?

Anytime I see a movie that changes the story too much I get a bit agitated.
I have a couple, Angela's Ashes. The movie left stuff out and changed the plot (which was a true story) way too much.

Lord of The Rings Trilogy. The second movie pissed my boyrfriend off. I found out why.

How to eat fried worms...well this is a classic children's book Hollywood tried to modernize it.

All the harry potter books....especially the 3rd book and 3rd movie (Prizoner of Azkaban). I just didn't like it. Book was great, movie made me mad.

What do you think, which books were definetley better than their movies?

Yes, in the fifth harry potter film, they're going to cut out a lot... :-( so sad. Makes me almost not want to see it.

Great question, here are some examples I have come across:.

All the Harry Potter books, they completely leave out entire story lines! It drives me nuts, the books are amazing and the movies are great, but not compared to the each other.

Misery by Stephen King, the book was outstanding, one of the best I have ever read, but the movie as so-so. Again story lines were missing that ended up changing the whole book, Kathy Bates was good though

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, it's a very cute book that turned into a horrid movie, I hated it

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, again cute books with a movie that ruined it, the movie lacked details and led the audience to believe things that never happened in the novel

White Oleander by Janet Fitch, great story that could have turned into an excellent movie if it were done right, the movie was okay in it's own right but not after reading the book

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, this one angers me the most, they took four books and crammed them into one confusing comic film. The books are sad and depressing and they have Jim Carrey playing an evil villan! I really hope they don't make anymore, it would be a waste

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, I guess the movie wasn't that horrible, but the book was much better

I could go on all day, but I won't. I get really excited when I read and book and then them make a movie and I am always disappointed. Usually the movie is great for those who haven't read the book, but when you have it's a let down. This probably happens because the movie is one person's interpretation of the book, and it is not what you immagined.
