Drugstore cowboy is a good movie about addiction, Rumblefish and Kids are troubled teenagers movies.
I haven't seen too many great films about depression, but depression is one of the key themes of Mulholland Drive, so you should watch that too. It's one of the best movies ever made, but you must keep an open mind when watching it....

definately requiem for a dream.
thirteen was the stupidest movie i've ever seen. it was made for middleschool kids to watch to make them feel cool. it was terrible.
the virgin suicides is also another AMAZING movie. definately have to see it atleast once in your life.
