Issac Asimov, he also wrote "the three laws of robotics", which appear in other sci-fi works quite regularly.
I have a collection of robot stories by Isaac Asimov and many science essays by him too.
The title and the "three laws" come from Asimov's collection of short stories. The actual story is by another writer. I don't recall his name.
I'm shocked you didnt know it was Issac Asimov. Other films loosely based around stories of his include Bicentenial Man. Despite only a couple of films being directly based around his stories, his ideas especially those about robotics feature in many sci-fi films from the Forbidden Planet (1956) where Robby the Robot has a hierarchical command structure which keeps him from harming humans, much like Asimovs 3 laws.
In Aliens and the entire Alien series we get brief references to the first law in regards to androids such as Bishop and Ash from the first film.
