Question:
What is the right way of going to be discovered as a young gospel singer ?
I'm a young local gospel singer and I want to know the correct way to get someone to hear me and my ideas. If you are someone who is trying to scam me I don't need your input. Thank You
Answers:
The way of being discovered as a gospel artist is not much different than a regular artist. I produce music and my old roommate was Ron Kenoly's (you may not know him but he's big in gospel) studio manager as well a backup vocalist and I was trained first in production by the gospel artists Izzie. For starters you need to record and album or demo. After that you should start looking for a good manager who has connections in the gospel scene and manages gospel artists.
Also make a web page like www.whateveryournameis.com. Also make a music myspace and put your music on there. Once you record a music video put it on youtube and link those pages together. If people like your voice and look they'll want to buy your CD and you'll start building a following. Nowadays, labels are looking for people who are already hot and in demand (saves them time and money). This works to your advantage because once a label approaches you----you have leverage. You can say "why should I sign with you, I have a following. What can you give me that I don't already have?" The answer of course is mass marketing, but here you have bargaining power and this will help you retain your publishing rights.
You still should try to get a manager because they can help you get events and shows to perform at. Always perform and posts clips on your webpages so you fans, audience, A&R, talent scouts, and labels can find and hear you.
A lot of people lately are getting discovered by people emailing anonymous links to A&R's saying "check this boy out he can really blow" and next thing you know---their getting contacted by labels.
Between that and God you'll be good.
Best wishes
