like pros and cons if you wont my thoughts on it i think no pick is better because you can use slap, hand strums, two hand tapping, or just your fingers. the only real advantage picks have on bass is that its louder and you can strum with it but its just the same as hand strums. Source(s):
person style I think it sounds better with no pick. The strings on a bass are thick enough to play without a pick. When I played bass, I preferred not to use a pick. You don't have to worry about control of your grip. (i.e.: too tight a grip, you develop carpal tunnel later on; too light a grip, the pick flies out of your fingers, puts someone's eye out...) Picks are gentler on your fingers , give a brighter tone and are faster. Fingertips give a softer, warmer tone, and a bare thumb the thickest, deepest tone of all(my usual choice). It depends on the style a bit. definitely no pick jsut depends on the style you want to play. some songs sound better with a plastic pick, others with fingers. neither is better or worse than the other, just different. Can you even slap and pop with a pick in your hand?

NO PICK Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick uses a pick so that must be the right way. They have a very controlled, complex sound.
