Answers: My classic county artist and your classic country artist might be two different things here. How old are you and is classic country the 80's or the 60's?
Gene Autry made is mark. How about Chet Atkins? He started many of the "classic artists" of today. Buck Owens started a hole revaluation of country music in California. Mac Wiseman is a all time country great in Bluegrass. Cowboy Copas is another all time great. Look at Bob Wills,Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash.....
Very little music of today is unique.
Just matters what you consider "classic" country music.

I don't know if I can name just one. My dad still listens to them all: Johnny Cash, George Jones, George Strait, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton (her older stuff) Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson... to name a few. I think they all embody that classic country feeling.

Well the key words here are classic country. That can be measured in many different ways either by the number of records sold,number of number one hits, greatest fan following etc. There is only one true way to measure it and that would be by their performances. I would have to give the nod to the great legendary Ernest Tubb with second place going to Merle Haggard. Let us not forget where it all started with the late Jimmie Rodgers. I sure as H-ll don't consider any of these new shaved taled puppies to be classic country artists but there are always those who don't know the difference and try to lump them all in one basket. These new comers wouldn't make a wart on the real classic country music artists backside.
