CLASSIC ~ TRADITIONAL Country Fans would you consider GORDON LIGHTFOOT COUNTRY o!

Question: I don't really consider Gordon Lightfoot a country artist, but a lot of great country artists recorded his songs, most notably Marty Robbins with "Ribbon Of Darkness" and George Hamilton IV with a bunch of Gordon's songs.

Tough lines for Canadian artists to make it in REAL country music. I don't consider Shania Twain a country artist.

Crossover, not traditional country.
country/folk
More folk than country, but labels don't really matter.
pop, nothing but pop
Gordon Lightfoot is not in my opinion classic country music but more of a folk singer.
or ? never heard of him
Gordon Lightfoot............more folksy than country
I have to agree with everyone...folksy.
I always considered him a singer/songwriter working in the folk vein, but seeing your question made me think. I would say much of his work, particularly the late 60s/early 70s stuff recorded in Nashville with Red Shea on guitar is more country than 90% of the music discussed on this forum (Tim, Faith, Keith, Carrie, blah, blah, blah.)
No but I love him. I would put him in the Folk categroy with the likes of Cat Stevens and Jim Croce.
He is good, but I don't consider him country.
