I can definitely second Andreas Vollenweider, I think this is the first time I've ever seen his name mentioned on here. Down to the Moon is a great album, but there are about 10 more all of them excellent!
Since you're using the term 'sacred' music, have you heard the Tallis Scholars? They are a choral group, based in Cambridge, who specialise in Masses and other 'ecclesiastical' music. Turn your front room into Westminster Abbey!
That's an interesting combo.
Try:
The Church or Sisters of Mercy
Lisa Dalbello
Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians
Checkfield (esp Water, Wind & Stone)
Deep Forest
Yousou N'Dour
Sarah McLachlan
Cocteau Twins (but you probably already know this one)
Tangerine Dream (you probably know this one too)
Andreas Vollenwieder (esp Down to the Moon)
Enigma
If you like these, I'd be happy to make other suggestions.
fields of the nephilim
all about eve
lords of the new church
the mission
the one and only Liam Lawton
