Ok, being that you specified "no country" I'm going to go directly against your wishes and urge you to check out "Timebomb" by the Old 97's. I thought I hated country also, until I started listening to the Old 97's. At least listen to the sample.
My definately-not-country reccomendation is "Neighborhood 1 (Tunnels)" by Arcade Fire.
