Music to play guitar along to?!

Question: I'm looking for albums to play my guitar along to (I find playing along to music helps me learn more). I'm fairly decent, even tough I've only been playing for about 6 months. I have an extensive music background, but mainly in the classical genre.

I'm looking for albums that won't require me to retune my guitar every other song. I have a capo, so let me know if the album you're recommending requires it. I know some of you will say just use the capo instead of retuning, but some capo placements if key was to be replicated by tuning would break my strings.

To give you an example of what kind of level I'm at, here's a list of albums I can play flawlessly.
Nirvana "unplugged MTV"
Counting crows "August and Everything After"
Tom Petty "greatest hits"
The Cranberries "everybody else is doing it.."

I'm not picky about what kind of music, I'll play hardcore death metal as long as I don't have to adjust the tuners every other song.....but please offer a variety of suggestions.

Do you play lead or just rhythm?

Try a Black Crowes album. They are blues-rock. Good stuff.

If you have Madonn'a "American Life" CD, trying playing along with "Love Profusion". Its only 4 chords.

Here is how to solve some of your re-tuning problem: Get some software called the Amazing Slow Downer. You can not only slow down hard solos, you can change the pitch of the song without affecting the speed if thats what you want. So a song like Van Halen's "Runnin With the Devil" doesnt require you to retune.

Of course, that just helps if they tuned up or down. If they used an alternate tuning like "Drop D", thats a different ballgame.

Google for "Amazing Slow Downer". Its not free, but its worth it. It works with the songs ripped to your harddrive.

Secondhand Serenade's Awake.

It's really dashboard confessionalesque, but it's some pretty good guitar that's really good to practice with, especially with what you said, getting better, etc.

Portrait Of An American Family.

Well, the only song that I can think of, off the top of my head, and my son plays it, is Free Bird, by Lynard Skynard. He is obsessed with that song.
:-)

That is how I learned to play in the 1960's. I played with the radio, which is hard because every band is out of tune about 1/4 note from the next. I had an "Orchestra" guitar (a cheap Harmony) which had an adjustable bridge. I put an additional bridge between the regular bridge and the tailpiece, and sometimes would slide it up or down to sort of tune it to the song. I didn't care if I was out of tune, because it was for practice, not for sound. I played bar chords instead of a capo. I was in a band in about one year after I started, and earned my way through college in the band.

Check out some Nickelback, Buckcherry and Red Hot Chili's tabs. Kid rock's cool too.

don't be a ***** and play Master of Puppets 8========>
