Have you ever been amazed to learn the ORIGIN of a song that was later re-record!
Question: For instance, I heard an OLD cut of "When the Levee Breaks" which I later found was written and recorded in 1929!!! It was done by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in a VERY early blues style, and of course, made MUCH more famous by Led Zep.
Can you name any other similar examples?

Yes, this has happened to me many times...but in a different way. In my generation, rap and similiar electronic music is prevalent and it contains lots of samples of old music. I can tell I'm getting older because those samples aren't quite so "old" anymore, if you know what I mean! But I it's fun to pick out and I'm often amused at the creative way the samples are rearranged to make a new song.
I was amazed most recently when I heard Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise" from which rapper Coolio sampled the backround for his more recent "Gangster's Paradise". Wow. What a rip, lemme tell ya. Not one of Coolio's more original tunes.
I was amazed that Sting and the Police did "I'll be watching you". Who knew?
