Easy guitar songs for a beginner?!

I recently started teaching my buddy guitar in exchange for piano lessons, and naturally some easy songs I learned when first starting out came up. I taught him "House of the Rising Sun" (a very simple song that is very easy to solo over). "More Than a Feeling" by Boston is fairly simple as well. Everyone has gotta learn "Smoke on the Water" when starting out. "Iron Man" by Sabbath is another such beginner classic as is "Sevin Nation Army" by The White Stripes. Naturally you'll want to move on to some Zeppelin after getting the basics, but mainly, I'd recommend going the natural route, listening to all sorts of things, and waiting till a song catches your attention, then looking it up and perfecting it. Building your own personal taste is a huge step towards becoming a good guitarist.

I used to go to mxtabs but they are shut down last I checked.
Now I go to www.ultimate-guitar.com which has loads of songs.
www.911tabs.com isn't bad either.

and although it's PROOOBABLY not the type of music you're into, goo goo dolls songs (such as "give a little bit" and "iris") are REALLY good for starting out. they're a little challenging at first, but they really force you to learn a lot of necessary fundamentals for good guitar playing@
If you like punk most punk and pop-punk songs are really easy to play. Try some Green Day, Ramones, Blink-182....

"Soak up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow? Not exactly rock but its pretty easy. Although "Wake me up When September ends" by Green Day is pretty easy
Try Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day, Come as You Are by Nirvana (though it might sound different on electric guitar), and MakeDamnSure by Taking Back Sunday.. that is.. if you know who they are, and im assuming you do
