Looking for the title/artist to an older classic rock song....?!

Question: Ok, so, this is not going to be easy to figure out, but I'll give it a shot:
I heard a song at my work the other day, and I had the radio set to a classic rock station...which plays mostly songs from the 60's and 70's. I heard a song that was sung by a male, with no one else singing with him. It was slow, and he had a mournful, sad way of singing. At one point, he held out a single note, which (I think) was the ending to a sentence in a verse for a long amount of time...this is the part of the song that is sticking out most in my memory. I'm pretty sure this part was the chorus of the song, and it was repeated a few times. Near the end of the song, it got very epic-ish, with the sound of strings. I believe I may have heard the song in a movie before. His voice reminded me of Jim Morrison's from The Doors, but I am not familiar with all of their songs, so I can't be sure it was him. I know this is vague...but if anyone has any clue, I would be glad of any suggestions!

Sounds like "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues

Any words ?

Is it

She's Leaving Home, by the Beatles, sung by Paul McCartney on Sgt. Pepper's?

It has strings, starts simple and builds and seems to have the da da rhythm. "Sheeeeeeee's leaving home, bye bye"

Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin
