Do you think there is creativity in producers who only use samples??!

Question: Do you think it affects the other producers that are original?

Answers: Do you think it affects the other producers that are original?

If they're coming up with original music then it's creative. You could say that composers in the 19th century who wrote variations on a theme by another composer were "not creative" - they didn't come up with the theme themselves. Or you could say that all classical musicians are not creative, because they seek to perfectly replecate the written score. You could even say that anyone who uses standard pitches is not creative, because pitches have been used so often.

I believe those who use samples ARE creative - yes they didn't write the music present in the sample, but neither did the person who DID write it make the drum or the guitar - nor did they come up with their own scale and harmonic technique. ALL music is copying to a certain extent.

It is possible to come up with more varied musics if you write you own thing - but equally you can come up with stuff that sounds just like everything else, wheras someone twisting and manipulating samples can write something completely new and different.

There is still creativity...one of my favorite albums was all samples, was all instrumentals, and was made in 2006 (Donuts)

yes. just like history repeats its self so does music.trends come and go and will always be around as long as there is a way to keep them on a record able format. Its harder than ppl think to sample. listen to pete rock, just blaze, j dilla some of the best producers today use sampling.

yeah they are learnig about muzik they learn to respect other types of muzik

Definatly. As a DJ/producer I can honeslty say its tough to get the perfect sound out of a sample, as much as it wouldn't seem like it. There are so many different things you can do to tweak or play around with a song (speed it up, slow it down, reverb, chop it, reverse etc). One type of effect can make a song a hit, where as another makes it terrible. Its up to your creativity whether or not one works. Plus, there's the looping technique where producers take a bunch of samples and string them together to get one beat. Its really hard to get the right sound and set up. Besides, using sythn pads or kits follows the same idea...do you know how many people use 808 kits? It's the same idea as 5 different producers sampling "Juicy Fruit".

No, the first 25 years of hip-hop's beats had zero creativity (sarcasm....)

And I wouldn't call using the same Roland 808 drum sounds that have been around since the 80's and 3 notes on Fruity Loops or a Triton make you "original".
