1. People hate what they don't understand. If it's not sugarpop or rap, then people are understandably going to get freaked out and go hater.

2. They're not emo. Anything that is not rap/pop/country gets labled as 'emo' these days. I find Panic quite upbeat, personally. :)

Can't wait for the album release! :D

i watched one of their live performances recently, and wow, why is that accepted by a large audience? i just don't get it.

I don't know, that's dumb...
A lot of bands are 'emo' now, if their lyrics aren't like 80s metal crap..
They rule, I don't care what people say, haha!

I don't hate them.

They aren't emo but their music can be considered so.
Real emo music is Sunny Day Real Estate, Jimmy Eat World, and Dashboard Confessional, ect. Some Fueled By Ramen artists like Paramore and The Academy Is... are considered emo music and accept it or want to be called emo music. Hayley Williams talks about emo in the Rolling Stones. Fueled By Ramen was started by Jimmy Eat World band member and like I stated from one of the first emo bands. Emo music isn't bad, but people associated slitting wrists and hair covering eyes and wearing black eyeliner with emo but some fans dress that way because emo is emo because of the lyrics and deep meaning. It's not a bad thing but a lot comes with it people think the style and it has nothing to do with emo people and the way they are depressed. Style and people wise they are not emo, there new music is rather happy but still deep meaning.

I think they are a good band their new CD is going to be different though. But I still am planning to buy it tomorrow.

They were on a show called Steven's Untitled Rock Show on The Fuse and they are changing up they wanted to be happy and started listening to older bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and they want to make less depressing music-- maybe they aren't emo then. But emo music isn't bad it's the style and dress associated with it. Emo bands go the extra step and get into the music lyric wise. Panic at the Disco's older music was emo this is less emo but still emo and they don't really look emo.

I never considered them emo or anything, but in my opinion I find them to be a pretty tasteless band. Whatever it is that has made them special over these past few years, has not appealed to me.

unique yes
one of the best bands out there... no

maybe one of the best pop bands out there but def. not rock

try arctic monkeys they are the best NEWER BAND out there

They are an overrated mainstream rock band. What do you expect?

Because they sound like Spandau Ballet.

Here's a proof:

but I don't hate them.

They are a terrible , terrible band. Even worse than MCR. The writing is horrible. They are just not any good. That is why I do not like them.

As this question is in a way subject to opinion, it will receive many varying answers that cannot really be proven. That being said, I believe the reason they are refered to as emo is because they appear like, and sound similar to, many emo bands. Many musicians come out making music and don't label themselves as one kind of music or another. These labels are placed there by test listeners and the record companies they are hired by, as well as the advertisement departments in those record companies. It is sad that male teens refer to emo as "gay" and or uncool because it showcases males/females with heart and attitude, because in many ways it is the only rock out there right now. They are in many cases most offended by the feminine qualities the male emo star embraces (for stage presence more than anything,) and fear being labeled as gay for listening to it by other non-gay males. This is why, in my opinion, the rap and r&b markets are exploding with popularity right now, witch is sad because these artists are assembled by record lables the way a factory assembles a car, from the ground up. So in short, teens have a mixed response to the music known as emo.... and listeners as well as music tyrants decide what a bands genre is. Sorry so long, but a good question deserves a good, as well as thorough answer.

I don't know, I like them, BUT I hate that they changed their style in their recent album. And I think it was weird that they had to take the exclamation mark out of their name. That was stupid. I agree that some of their lyrics are kind of emo, but I don't see what that is a problem..

Just being emo doesn't make me hate them. I just don't like their music.

I know! Panic! At the Disco (or Panic [without !] At the Disco) is like one of the most awesomest bands out there.

I know people have their own taste in music. many people are into that rap and hip hop stuff and Panic at the Disco and some other bands do not appeal to them. To them it just sounds like a whole lot of noise with no rhythm probably!

What makes them emo? They aren't emo...their music has emotion, but come on...all music has emotion. I guess it also depends a lot on the tune and beat and how emotion the lyrics really are! Let's just think of it this way:

The kind of music we listen too, most people classify as "emo". Really its just our style of music!

Besides, what do people have against emos (im not emo but friends with many "emos") and dont ask. I dont want to talk about this.

Yes PATD is unique and wonderful...but...ugh! Just stick to what you like, and dont care what other people like!

EDIT: about them being different, from with their new albums going from a depressing state to a more happy state, come on...what band sticks to the same genre their whole life? thats what makes music interesting...the creativity and what you are able to do and make of it! how it can send out messages (sorry...=P that was corny)

Ok Ryden lover. they are not emo...emo is stupid little whiney brats that think that "being Depressed" is cool, and dressing all in black. PATD and MCR are NOT EMO. You are so right, their songs have meaning, and if some people do not see that or get that, tough s**t for them. Sux to be them.
I love my life, love my music, love to rock out and these bands make me HAPPY, not depressed. So if you like them, that is all that matters.

They suck and sorry excuse for music.Lousy emo ****.

Lyrics aren't "emo"...they're just gimmicky...look at the new song...how can it be Nine in the afternoon? Long titles don't always mean kickass music.

And even among pop punk/pop rock bands, there are better ones out there.

I think its the emo calling is because of the sound of the lead singers voice. Personally I think they're great, but sometimes emo can be a compliment (only sometimes). I think that for some reason, because FOB is considered emo, Panic is lumped together with them. As is Cobra Starship etc.

I think people hate them because they're afraid of good music. Although they are not my favourite band, and I do prefer heavier music, they do have some pretty good catchy songs.

And, bands (LP, BFMV) change all the time. Some people are just reluctant to accept it. All I care about is that the music is still great and they aren't sell outs.

I think the people in Panic have great personalities and yes, they are unique. People who hate good bands dont deserve ears.

People have their reasons.
Some of those reasons make sense to them (keywords: to them) while some of them don't make sense to you (keywords: to you).

You can't change people's opinions. You just gotta deal.

-because some people dont like to actually have 2 think about the meaning of the lyrics or music of a song
-emo is just people singing about being depressed, who want to commit suicide or have lost love or some crap like that and i dont know where people hear any of that in their songs

their lyrics is emo, and their music doesn't appeal to me. its like i'm allergic to their music. and their a rip off of the beatles. their sooooo overrated. unique? no, beatles wanna be's.

Question One: People hate them because they are slightly jealous? There is always going to be a group of people that hates on other people because they have accomplished better things. Panic is hated because, honestly, their first record kind of sucked. And it's like, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana: people don't like them because, for a summer or so, they were EVERYWHERE. Sad, but I can't listen to the radio without hearing "I Write Sins" at least four times. Not to mention, Ryan Ross can be a jerk.

Question Two: I don't classify my music. I don't see them as emo. We went through a period where we called them "Theatre punk" due to their outlandish stage show and makeup (which, might I add, is another reason they are hated on). What could classify them as emo is the fact that Ryan Ross writes lyrics with "emotion" to them. Being emo isn't a bad thing, necessarily. They write "sad" songs (because you can't really write a happy song about alcoholism), therefore, emo.

Don't know if this is what you were looking for.
Love them nonetheless.
