Modern Jazz Quartet. Their stuff would certainly fit into the "Smooth Jazz" genre today, but all the members were bona fide jazz musicians and their music totally sophisticated and stylish. Milt Jackson was perhaps the greatest vibe player ever, and you can listen to their great sides for hours and hours and never get tired.
