What you're experiencing could be some slight irritation to the chords, and a technique issue!. You should be able to be raspy but be able to sing clean as well!.

Take some time off, let the chords rest and try it again!. Don't settle with the idea that you're just going to be raspy from now on!. Take some lessons to get your technique back on track!.

And don't think popcorn or tea or honey or sprays or anything like that will help you, I know people are going to suggest this as a fix!.

You're vocal chords are in you're wind pipe, food and water goes down your esophagus!. No food or liquid will ever touch your vocal chords, and we all know you'd choke and asphyxiate if anything but air goes down your wind pipe!.

Drink plenty of water though, the vocal chords are lubricated by a watery phlegm, when you're body gets dehydrated this phlegm thickens up and does not work to lubricate the chords as well!. by keeping your body well hydrated your body in turn keeps your chords well lubricated!. Shoot for at least 8 glasses, but for singers 16 is best, a whole gallon, since we loose a lot of moisture when we sing from the simple fact that we breath it out as we sing!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

How long has it been!? You might just need to hush for a while and give your vocal cords a rest!. If you overwork them while they are trying to heal you can develop scar tissue!. It's not something that will happen from just doing it once, but if you continue to do it over and over again you will do permanent damage!.

also, you can eat a little buttery popcorn to help your vocal cords smooth up a bit!. Tons of professional singers use this trick when they are having a rough night or doing too many shows too close together!.

And to answer your question, there are lots of fantastic raspy-voiced singers!. Tom Waits, for example!. His entire career is based on his raspy voice!. I'm not too big on R&B though!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

hey you can be in a rap-rock band!.!. just listen to chester benningtons voiceWww@Enter-QA@Com
