Were The Police a punk band in the late 70's early 80's?!
Question: Were The Police a punk band in the late 70's early 80's!?
Answers:
The Police had some punk elements in their 1st 2 albums, esp 1st, but the elements never became strong enough to really call them PUNK!. I don't know how it aplayed out with them, and how they went punk, or away from it!. Sting was probably the most charismatic and influential member of the Police, so what he wanted was probably done more often than not!. He decided there was too much infighting in the group, and he didn't like the direction the band was going in 1983, so he went solo!.
But no, the Police were not very much a punk band!. Only some elements which didn't last past the 1st 2 albums!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

During its initial years, from 1977 to 1979, the Police was mistakenly associated with the British punk movement due to the members' very strong blond/leather-cladded visual image!. But if you consider the music, the band was anything but punk!.
The Police formed in January 1977 when Stewart Copeland (who had played with progressive rock outfit Curved Air) got together with Gordon Sumner, aka Sting (who at the time was with a jazz combo, Last Exit) and original guitarist Henri Padovani!. In June of that year, rocker Andy Summers (formerly with Eric Burdon and the New Animals and Soft Cell) was added as 4th member!. By August, Padovani left the group resulting in the line-up that would eventually became one of the biggest rock acts of the 1980s!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
