It depends!. Some recording studio staff like to get some studio time to use the equipment for their own projects!. I interned at a few studios all at the same time and all three had different policies!. One helped musicians record their music, and that was all they did!. Another signed artists and marketed them as well as recording them!. The last one was a conglomeration of a bunch of EDM artists (house, trance, techno, the works) who got together with the aid of grant money to create their own studio to make their own music, market it and do research!.

To produce your own EDM-like music requires either some software or thousands of dollars in hardware!. Provided you have a computer with the necessary sound card ports, minimum for hardware I'd say would be $4000 USD unless you make your own synthesizers!. There really isn't a maximum!. One of the studios I interned at had nearly $900,000 USD in equipment and some big labels probably have more expensive stuff!. For software, it'll probably be in that range as well considering digital audio workstations tend to cost in the $600 range and you still have to buy third party VSTs to make your beats and synth your voices!.

Keep in mind that contrary to popular belief, it is very difficult to produce a good EDM track, mostly because most people realize that making good melodies and beats isn't as easy as they thought, and after they've written their song, they still have to look forward to 99% of the work, which goes into mixing/equalizing and mastering!. I cannot stress this enough!. To make a good EDM track, you MUST mix/equalize properly, and it's no easy task at all!. Due to the complex and novel sounds used in EDM, we spend more than 10x (some would argue 100x or 1000x) the time mixing and equalizing compared to other genres!. As a consultant, I get thousands of tracks with great ideas, but abysmal mixing!. These tracks will never make it onto the market if the artists don't hunker down and figure out how to mix properly!. Producing EDM is not for the faint at heart!. I commend your interest in this industry and wish you best of luck in your endeavors!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
