Answers:
!.!.!.different genres are useful if you're trying to describe a bands style to someone who hasn't yet heard them!.!.!.but it can be upsetting when elitist types try to put down certain genres (and the people who enjoy them)!.!.!.it takes away from the purity of heavy metal by swaying the recording industry to back whatever sub-genre is popular and pass over bands that are doing something more real and truthful!.!.!.

!.!.!.I have no idea about the Boston thing!.!.!.but I've wondered about it!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No it actually doesn't upset me or annoy me in the slightest!. I think it gives a very detailed description of what a metal band sounds like!. If someone tells me that such and such band is atmospheric sludge metal for example, then I will understand that they will have a similar sound to Isis!. If someone tells me they are technical death, then I know that it will be epic and the instrumentals will blow me away!. It's really not that hard to learn sub-genres, and people should just suck it up and start learning how to describe bands because it gives a good idea of what the band will sound like!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

METAL genres sub genres !?!?!? How the hell can anyone keep up anymore!? 10 years ago it was just metal, death metal, black metal!.!.!.!.Then we get into sub-genres I'm glad I don't have any douche bad friends that would fight me if I called a band death metal if the were ummm ( pagan/viking metal ) even though I love that s hi t!. I see people over the Internet argue and call names for calling bands one genre to another!. Metal has a very wide variety of sound and bands but I don't see why people get so upset over genres! Now I love everything from megadeth to cradle of filth to Eluveitie to devil driver to the melvins!.!.!.!.but If some on said hey what do you listen to I would say METAL!. Just METAL!.!.!.!.(OK bring on the thumb downs because I know how upset you people get when you dont have a crazy long genre pegged on a band )

Boston!? Boston Texas!? LOLWww@Enter-QA@Com

It doesn't "upset" me, but it sucks how people continue to argue about what bands are what genres, because there are soo many, and every one obviously has there own opinions on what bands are what genres, but yeah it would be alot better, if there was just Metal, like Ive seen so many people argue about what genre Bring Me The Horizon would come under, I Would say metal for sure, but Ive seen alooooot of people say they are emo, which from what ive read is a style of punk/rock!? lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

genres in general make me really angry!. its so frustrating!.

plus without genres, there would be as many labels & cliques!. also some bands are discriminated against because of the bands they're genre are associated with!. like for example if your reading a magazine and its showcasing a new upcoming band and it compares them to a band you absolutely hate then chances are your not going to even try to listen to them!.

the only benefit of subgenres i think is that they help describe a band to someone who has never heard them before!.

I wrote a 10 page essay about genres and the effects of them for one of my honors classes last year!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Not really!.

It gives a more detail description to a particular metal band!.
I wish sub-genres are further divided into sub-sub-genres!!!

Hahaha!!!

You know where I'm upset!? The sub-genres of TRASH rock and emo!. I think bands like MCR, Jonas Bros, Korn should be classified in one genre - "Garbage Rock"Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yeah, it does annoy me!. I wish the genres would be more generalized!. It seems like people are just making their own genres up nowadays!.

Optional: I don't know!. My mom's from Massachuetts (not Boston) and she does this too!. Everytime it's "soder" not "soda" and "Donner" not "Donna"!. I find it funny!. Lol!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's absurd!. Metal is metal & rock is rock!.

Record labels & exec's are creating these ridiculous categories & sub-categories to have people not realize that the music is crap!.

If the music kicks A, who cares what music category it comes from !?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm an old metal head from waaaaay back!. To me there's only metal!. I find it hard not to get violent when people start inventing sub-genres, sub-sub-genres and sub-sub-sub-genres!. Dee Snyder says it best, "If it aint metal !. !. !. IT'S CRAP!!"

Optional Question: Beats me!. Go figure!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes it upsets me! I try and talk to people about metal and then they throw the "what type" at me and I stutter out a genre and they laugh!.
I've just started saying thrash for everything!. When in doubt, say thrash!. :o)

*Because they just enjoy being different!? Ha, no idea, but interesting to find out!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It kind of discourages me from wanting to explore it in greater detail, only because there seems to be a new one almost daily!.
But it doesn't *upset* me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I find it very funny!.It doesn't upset me but I don't fully explore metal all like I should due to the fact there are sooo many sub-genres and a new genre comes out like every month or so!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No, that doesn't upset me!. Who gives a f cuk how many sub genres people decide to come up with!. Either a band suc ks or it doesn't !.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm think it's ridiculous that there's 30+ metal sub genres, but it doesn't really upset me!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It is a little ridiculous, but I'm not losing sleep over it!. My rule is if it sounds good who cares what genre it is!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

most of em are made up, and a joke!.!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
