I'm learning how to sing. But when I get to parts where I have to start sing!

Question: I'm learning how to sing!. But when I get to parts where I have to start singing loud I choke/gag!?! Why!?
Answers:
I think it has to do with the construction of the human windpipe/trachea and our innate gag reflex!. There is a little flap of flesh that prevents us from drinking water and having it go to our lungs!. It sits on top of the windpipe and flips up when you breathe and then closes when you swallow (food, water, etc!.)!. When you swallow you can sort of feel the fleshy part move!.

When you sing, this little flap of flesh vibrates!. The reverberation travels throughout the body when you sing properly!. A technique you learn is to sort of puff up and push out your throat--you can see the adam's apple protrude a lot more than usual!. You breathe much easier and this is what provides the deeper and fuller sound when you sing!. "Singing from your stomach" to achieve that deep, hearty sound when you sing stresses out that little flap of flesh and triggers the gag reflex!.

I know the feeling you are talking about!. It happens when I sing for a long time!. It also happened to me when I used to play the oboe for long periods!. Eventually you get used to it and you build up a tolerance to the effects!. The best way to recover quickly is to just focus on your breathing (keep your throat relaxed)!.

Hopefully that sheds a little light on the matter!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well I am working on becoming a professional singer and I might have an answer to your problem!. Your voice isn't trained to it's fullest potential just yet!. I was the same when I started out!. Keep practicing and that will go away!. Try practicing your high notes and don't spoil your voice by trying to sing too loud!. It's not good!. Practice makes perfect and that's all you have to do!. =D Good Luck

you need to make sure you support the notes by using plenty of air!.
also when you yawn, you will feel your throat open up!. when you sing, you should try to open your throat and that will produce a better sound along with supporting!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
