How come I never see Steve Howe mentioned as one of the greatest guitarists?!

Question: How come I never see Steve Howe mentioned as one of the greatest guitarists!?
If you don't know who he is, he's from the prog rock band Yes!. I don't listen to Yes, my dad does, and because of him, I have to hear songs occasionally and watch a couple videos!. He seems like a great guitarist to me, and he won the Greatest Guitarist Award (the name of the award is something similar to that) like 5 years in a row I think!? So why does no one mention him!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

You're Awesome for asking this! Steve Howe is one of the Greatest Guitarists EVER!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Good Question - Because he is not only one of the Greatest, but qualifies as one of the most Unique -- mixing of "backwoods" Folk & Jazz styles into his Style!.

It's probably because Most Prog Rock musicians are bypassed by Hard Rock, Metal, & Blues - when it comes to Folks thinking of great musicians (!?!?)!.

-- Which is Strange, given the Complexity of Prog!.!.!.

If you get a Chance - Listen to the Syndicats version of Chuck Berry's "Maybelline" -- Recorded in 1964 - Howe played on a "cheap" immitation guitar and had yet to receive his Famed ES-175D Custom (did I get that right!?)!.

Anyway - His end solo in "Maybelline" is super-Slick !!

I have tried for Years to play "The Clap" - and I can't even get 10% of it right LOL!.

Probably because prog rock is kind of a "love it or hate it" genre!.

I like a lot of Yes' stuff but some of their material (TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS comes to mind) tends to be overlong, bloated and indulgent!. Of course, none of this means that Howe isn't an impressive guitarist but it might explain why he doesn't always end up on "best of" lists!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Steve is an amazing guitarist, and has always been underrated!. his guitar work in Bodast, Tomorrow, The Syndicats, Asia, GTR and all of his solo work is equally amazing!. he is however mentioned and praised by other phenomenal players such as John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Alex Lifeson of Rush and Paul Gilbert!.

most of the true killer and phenomenal players are always underrated!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I mention him always, but of course I am a Yes fan since 1973!.
I think his guitar work is very much appreciated by progressive rock fans and experts also!.
Many younger guitarists incorporate some of his style and inventions!.
I recently saw Steve Morse with Deep Purple and his awesome solos instantly reminded me in parts of Steve Howe!.!.!.!.ethereal and mystical sounds!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Personal preference i`m guessing!.!. I take nothing away from him, he does have tremendous talent, he`s just not one of my favorites!.!.
If i`m not mistaken, I do believe he is listed as one of the 500 greatest Guitarists who have ever lived!.!. That`s still quite an accomplishment if you ask me!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I always mention him when people ask about great guitarists!.

Well that's a good question!. He's amazing!. My mom went to see Yes and said that some solos lasted 20 minutes!. To answer your question, it's probably because Yes isn't the most popular band!. Rush beats them out in their genre so not as many people have heard of them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes is really underrated!. I think that's the main reason!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
