The tone is different even though the pitch is the same!. Thicker strings are often considered to sound "better" but they are also harder to play!. It all depends on your personal preferences though!.
If you are a beginner, I'd recommend medium gauge strings!. DR are both good in quality and price!. But then again, it's all about preferencesWww@Enter-QA@Com

The guys talking about the pitch being different are wrong, the pitch stays the same, but the tone is different!.
Thicker strings have a thicker and deeper sound, good for rhythm guitar work or for deep chunky riffs!.
Thinner strings have a brigther, sometimes more brittle sound!. Many would say thinner strings are better for lead work or shredding!.
Its ALL personal preferences, so try stuff out, and use what you like!. =)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Thicker strings, tuned to the same pitch as the thinner ones we're comparing them to, sound fuller, richer, fatter, meatier!. They are harder to bend and they are harder on the fingers to fret!. Thin strings, obviously, the opposite!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
the difference is that the thicker the string is, the lower the sound gets! And the thinner the string is the higher the sound is! ok byeWww@Enter-QA@Com
