You lookin at the SG GT on Musicians Friend!?
I've owned a few Gibson's (still have a SG & LP) over the years!.
I preferred SG's originally and had a '73 (narrow nut) and a '64 (wide nut) as my main axes for years when I was a teen!. (washed a lot of dishes, delivered alot of papers and mowed alot of lawns for them) They both served me well and I preferred the double cutaway over the LPs single at the time!. LP's were heavier (non chambered) guitars back then too!. However, SG's can be headstock heavy!.

So, in my opinion for new guitars being offered today!.
I would not buy the SG just based upon the pics!. You can get a lightly used SG Supreme off eB*y for a much better buy than one of these new ones from MF!.
I personally do not care for the tailpiece on the GT, it looks whacked IMO, but if you like it-thats cool!.

The deal on LP's is not so much being overrated as they are grossly overpriced! Wow, they have gone up ALOT!. The best deal on MF's site for a LP is the goldtop classic for a new LP!. But again, a lightly used or new old stock LP off a reputable dealer on Ebay or Craiglist is not a bad way to go!. I just bought my last LP Std (A 60's model) a few months back when I got my taxes and it ran 1700!.00 new and that was on special at MF!. Since then they have gone up hundreds!.

I would strongly consider buying from someplace else other than MF!.
If you are looking online, AMS runs some good Gibson deals on the Guitar of the month and you can make payments!. Both places offer a 45 day return!.

If you are buying off eB*y, just make sure you are covered as there are Chinese fakes out there!. Use a credit card on your purchase and don't send western union!. Read the ebay columns if you are leary for buying tips!.!.!.they are really good!. I've bought and sold dozens of guitars off the internet used and have rarely gotten the shaft!. If it seems a bit to good to be true!.!.!.it just may be for a reason!. Ask questions!.
But buying slightly used or NOS is a good way to go with Gibson nowadays!. Search out discontinued runs!.
Thats the poop!.
(I dig the SG-90 deluxe btw-same neck and inlays as the supreme-hard to find tho)

Used LP studio are still a good buy but going up-the plus model is nice!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

it all depends what you look for in the guitar!. SG's have wider necks than Les Pauls, Personally my fingers are kind of big so I prefer the SG!. my favorite model is the Gibson SG Diablo!. (http://www!.guitarcenter!.com/Gibson-SG-Di!.!.!.
It plays easily and Sounds amazing!. It's very pricey though!. If you have the cash then it's well worth the buy in my opinion!. If you have some extra money, then you might want to update your pickups!. EMG's are always a good choice!. I personally love the Jack Wild set!. But I don't think it's a big deal at all with the Gibson standard of guitars!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I really like Les Pauls!. My experience with them has been good!. I like their look and their sound, both of which are versatile to other types of music!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

depending on the pick ups an the neck i would buy a les paulWww@Enter-QA@Com
