Rockers Going Crooners?!

Question: Rockers Going Crooners!?
I'm interested in knowing what you think about people that started out rocking, and later in their careers decided to get more 'serious' and crossed over to the old standards ala Tony Bennett (whom I love)!. So!.!.!.!.!.

1) Who comes to mind!?

2) Should they have or shouldn't they have!?

3) Who is the one person you think crossed over successfully!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Rod freakin Stewart!.

The guy who sang rockin tunes like "Stay With Me", "True Blue", "Hot Legs", etc suddenly got soft on us w/ those god-awful "standards" albums he put out!. I was embarrassed for him!. A total cash-in move that many others jumped the bandwagon on!.

I'm so glad that trend is over!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I don't know if it qualifies as "crooning" exactly, but I was impressed by Sting's Songs from the Labyrinth!. The album is comprised of faithful renditions of songs by English composers from the 1500s/1600s!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think you're either a rocker or not!. I would never cross over into anything else!. I think people who cross over were lost in the first place, and later found themselves!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think Brian Setzer's big band stuff was not nearly as good as his early rockabilly stuff with the Stray CatsWww@Enter-QA@Com
