I have a jazz project coming up and I need ideas!!?!

Question: I have a jazz project coming up and I need ideas!!!?
I'm a college junior who is taking Jazz in American Society!. For an extra credit assignment, I have to prepare a project that explores jazz in a unique and creative way!. I'm not sure what to do!. A little about myself:

I can sing, but I don't play any instruments!. I do have several friends that play instruments and would be willing to help me with a project musically if I wanted to go that way (which would be a cool idea)!. However, they aren't jazz musicians and I don't know how to write or read music!.

I like horses, maybe something to do with horses!?

I don't know, I don't want to do the basic paper!. I would like to do a fun project, maybe something with creating music!.

I don't know!! Help me out please!?

* I have a friend that does dressage at the olympic level, maybe create a musical freestyle!? (that is asking a lot seeing as musical freestyles are difficult to develop)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Sounds like a fun class!. I do not know what your project might be, but let me tell you a little third-hand story, told to me by a friend, a bass player!.

It seems he and a buddy of his had gone into a club where some band was playing!. Bluesy-jazz, jazzy-blues, whatever!. Apparently the crowd was all into it, but the band was only mediocre (according to these two musicians in the audience, anyway)!. So the buddy says to my friend, "These guys are posers and the crowd can't tell the difference!." Then, to prove his point, he starts applauding at some random spot in the song!. Of course the audience starts applauding too, as if the band had just played something awesome!. A little while later he does it again!. Again the crowd joins the applause, over nothing!. The band probably thought they were all kinds of cool!. His point was that jazz (/blues) requires that the audience gets it!. The musicians have to be good at the job, but the crowd needs to be good at their job too!.

I have tried to play jazz!. Apparently, I just do not 'get' it yet!. I keep trying!. I have to play slowly and simply, but my snare hand just does not co-operate with the swing, because I do not have the jazz ear to track the structure!. Plus, I do not really understand what to do with the kick (bass)!. I have tried to read jazz music, but there seems to be too many odd-looking notations for me to make any sense out of it!. Again, it is about the structure!.

Now, as for your project!. I was wondering (wrt the story above and my own lack of jazz ear) about this idea of American Jazz and the public's ability to 'get' it!. (I have heard said that jazz is the only truly original American musical form!.) What would happen if you surveyed people about jazz!? Find out what they think they know!. Play some for them and have them rate it!. Play good jazz and so-so jazz and see if folks can tell which is which!. No vocals (that would be cheating)!. I wonder how many jazz fans are 'poser' fans!. How many like jazz because that think it is cool to like jazz!? Do they really know jazz!? It is an American thing perhaps!.

Anyway, that is my idea!. Www@Enter-QA@Com
