You pick one that plays well, low action, no fret buzzing, straight neck etc!.
Yamaha, Samick, and Ibanez all make good entry level guitars

Ovations are good for that alternative style!. I'd get a six-string (not twelve)!. Yes, Yamaha is good, pretty much anything Yamaha is good in the music world!. Get one of the F-series Yamaha for a good beginner that's not too crappy!. Avoid the really cheap ones, anything less than 100 dollars!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
