I think it's because they think people might break in right next to them
i'm not afriad of sleeping next to windows but it may be because a burgalar may come in and you might be the first to get attacked. also because of peeping toms

Yes, as much as i love sleeping next to them. I've never been afraid of the burglers. Its the ghosts and thigs like that which scare me. At night before i sleep when i open the curtains something maybe standing outside, as we see in horror movies. And i know of a real incident when my mom's brother, woke up in the middle of the night and saw a bride, dressed in red heavy clothes. (Here in the south east asia brides wear red clothes on their wedding). And she was staring at him and was very beautiful, he was paralized from fear and could not speak for a few hours. When he came to his senses he told everyne what he had seen. So these are the things im scared of. Usually there are trees outside, which are known to have such creepy things on them. So its scary, that while you're sleeping someone might be watching you from up there and there are chances i might want to interact.
