Of course we've heard of Oprah Winfrey! We do get the show but on a piece by piece basis. It used to be shown on national/terrestrial television on Channel 5 a few years ago, but now you can only see the show if you subscribe to cable/satellite. Even then we don't seem to get the full run and are behind the US.
But I LOVE Oprah Winfrey. She is the chat show queen. Her shows aren't about people making fools of themselves with DNA testing and 'who my baby daddy' plots.
Her shows illustrate the breadth of the human spirit - the good, the bad and the ugly.
There is a reason she is the highest paid person on television.
We used to it was one the time filling spots on Channel 5 I think. It was ok but I always preferred Riki Lake, Doctor Phil and Sally Jessie Raphael as they seemed more entertaining, have read nearly all of her book-club books though.
We do get the Oprah Winfrey show here in England and I quite like it. It is informative and interesting although a lot of the content is for American audiences only. I generally try to avoid watching daytime Tv and this is when Oprah is on.
All your chat show hosts, including Oprah, Larry King, Sally Jessie Raphael etc etc are all quite well known in UK. Oprah makes most headlines for all the money she makes!!

i love oprah Winfrey and her show ... where pipo can come up with the truth and even if... you are a hard tear dropper .. but with her... she can make you lose it and tear up publicly....

We get it on Freeview. It is alright, but a bit boring in places. Like when she talks about books no one here would ever read. I prefer Ricki! More action!
Yes the Oprah show was aired in the UK - as a chat show hostess she was OK better than Kilroy but he interpreted his guests so who wasn't? I also remember an article about her in a 1985ish Readers Digest - probably about the time the film The Colour Purple came out.
