Quesiton about TV Show LOST?!
Question: You know how in Season 2 of Lost, Desmond is required to press a button every 108 minutes? And Locke prevents it from happening one time and the place begins to shake? Then Desmond takes a key and inserts it somewhere and everything is OK again.
Why doesn't Desmond just do that from the very beginning instead of pressing the button all the time?
Also, I don't really understand the key thing. What happened and what did they key do?

Turning the key released the magnetic energy that was built up within the island in one burst rather than controlled releases little by little that resulted from entering in the code. Desmond didn't do it sooner because he saw how the other man was afraid of it and he thought that he would die if he turned the key. Plus, at one time, Desmond decided not to turn the key because so much of what the other man told him was a lie, and the room shook and metal was flying, so he was scared and entered them in after all. He knew that there were powerful forces at work. By the way, the time that he didn't enter in the numbers resulted in the magnetic forces pulling apart a certain airplane flying overhead....
I don't remember all the details, but I know he wasn't sure what exactly would happen when you turned the key. Remember the other man who was there with him getting drunk and wanting to do it, but he was afraid of what would happen. I think it neutralized some crazy magnetic force or something, but like I said, I don't really remember. Hope it helped as far as why he didn't do it sooner though.
