Neighbours is now on Channel 5 because the BBC wouldn't pay the price required to retain it. Afternoon telly is tailored towards ...don't know how to say this without sounding offensive....the retired, the ill or the unemployed.
Nobody would dare interfere with prime time viewing.

PS. There seems to be some kind of gentleman's agreement for post-6pm tv. Eg. the popular soaps like Corrers and Eastenders don't clash. Why can't this kind of consideration be extended to our at-home-in-the-afternoon friends?

No I don't mind. The only thing with it being on channel 5 is that I have to go down stairs and watch it on the digital TV instead of my TV, because the reception for channel 5 is bad here but I don't mind.

My wife thinks its great as she cooks dinner early and then settles down to watch nieghbours and home and away.
I'm not bothered. You can watch repeats of it on 5 live at 7.00 (or 8.00 on +1). I don't watch myself.
They repeat it on 5life at 7pm and there are omnibus on Saturday and Sundays also on 5life.
