What went on with the whole Jin thing and him pretending to be dead on lost this!

Question: I know that Jin's scenes were a flash back while Sun's were a flashforward. I don't think that necessarily means that he is definitely dead, though. He may or may not be pretending to be dead. I think there are two possible scenarios given that his tombstone had his date of death being 9/22/04, the date of the plane crash.

1) He is actually dead. He died on the island sometime between their current time and the time of the rescue. When the Oceanic 6 got off, though, he was stated as having been one of the ones that died in the crash (for whatever cover reason they have).

2) He is not dead, but rather still on the island. The cover story of him dying in the crash would still hold, as apparently the Oceanic Six don't want to let anyone know that there are still survivors on the island.

Based on how distraught Sun was, I'd almost think it was option 1. I'm leaning toward option 2, though, as I think that TPTB want us to be rooting for the Oceanic Six to go back to the island, and that would help. I can't fathom what would make Jin separate from Sun, though, and not be rescued with her. So, in other words, if this scenario is the case, I have no idea why he would stay behind and be one of the ones presumed dead ("pretending to be dead") rather than be rescued. My best guess is that it was an either/or situation for him and Sun. Maybe someone threatened Sun and when Jin took care of it, he got left behind. Maybe there was only room for 6 people and he sacrificed his spot for Sun. Maybe he was trapped somewhere and couldn't get back in time. I'm intrigued by this whole thing and want to know some answers!

Well he's not pretending to be dead, Jin was actually a flash back since he said he had only been married for 2 months. Where Sun was in the future.

OK basically last weeks episode was a Flash back of Jin's life and a foreshadow of the birth of his child, there was no pretending he was actually died. just another plot twisted to keep people guessing.
