The Hills: Real or Fake?!
Question: I've always believed it was real until about now. You know how the show stopped then came back as season 3.5? Does anyone know why? not really. My cousin told me that there was a writers strike at that time but only for shows that would be scripted..fake in other words. is it fake then?

its a little of both.. they tell the camera crews their schedule and then they pick what they think will be the most entertaining. but when the cameras miss something big, like a break-up or a fight, the "actors" will have to reinact what happened.
That show is so totally fake.
yes it has fake written all over it. even lauren conrad herself said some of the scenes were scripted.

Maybe not "memorize your lines" fake, but the producers of the show most likely know what direction they want the show to take, and make sure it happens.
It's both. I was reading an article with the main girl- can't remember her name, and she said that one day she had a phone call with her friend and then later the producer's said they wanted to air that conversation so they had to do it again in front of the camera. I believe a lot of it is staged as well.
The hills are so fake. They live out a life that people write for them. Thats why the show stoped during the writers strike.

I've wondered the same thing. Good question....., but I'm pretty sure it's fake.
It's actually both. Most reality shows are scripted. They even create storylines for it. I thought the Hills normally left and came back at the time it did. The writers strike no too long ago ended, I don't think new episodes would be ready yet
Fake! No way that girl could put up with cameras in her face 24/7. The show is rigged.

I read something that said it's both. The producers tell them what to do and give them cool places to go. But the people are totally fake anyway! Watching that show makes me want to stick my hand in a toaster.
It is a show that is suppose 'look' like a reality show. They dont exactly have lines but they are told in what direction the producers want the show to go in. So I dunno, I just think of it as a regular show, not a reality show.
Gotta be fake....sometimes the offscreen voices don't match the tone at the time during conversations....The camera placement is always to perfect....I mean I think alot of people know it's probably fake....but what does mtv care, they know people are gonna watch it anyway.

I wouldn't really say the word fake. I would say planned. It seems very similar to The Fashionista Diaries.
I think it is mostly fake
some times, it is probably staged and the producers tell the "actresses" what to do.
whenever it isn't staged, I think the actresses play up the drama or act.
