Yes he kept saying that. But I think he thought it would be unwise. Because he didn't want a bunch of little Jethro's running around.

Actually the thought really never crossed my mind. I was too busy laughing at the characters on the show, to take notice. Probably he should also have a long talk with most of the youth of today. I believe they could learn alot from such a wise country man as Jed was.
That was the long standing joke. Jed said that all through the run of the series. Jed was periodically reminded about how dumb and naive Jethro was. When he would say "one of these days I have to have a long talk with that boy" he was implying "can you believe how naive this guy is". At least they did drag that particular gag into the ground. The long standing bit about Jethro always being such a glutton got old.
