He works well as the "big bad"!. But you never know!.!.!. there's always room for him to have some sort of epiphany and flip sides!. Of course then he'd have to go bad again, and then switch AGAIN to the good side, only to be killed once he's redeemed himself a second time!.!.!. and then he'll be back (because he can't ever REALLY die, not anymore), he'll go bad again but ultimately end up good!.
